• Cedar Elm

The cedar elm is the most common elm tree in the Lonestar state and is sometimes called the Texas elm. You’ll find it in nature near rivers or on dry limestone hills. However, it’s also a popular landscape tree chosen by homeowners and property managers alike.

This tree grows to be quite tall and can reach a height of up to 75 feet. The cedar elm flowers in the late summer and also produces a samara fruit.

• Chinese Pistache

This tree grows quickly with adequate sun exposure and is a great Texas shade tree. It withstands the Texas heat and droughts very well, which is one of the reasons it flourishes in our state.

The Chinese Pistache can grow to be 25 to 35 feet tall. It’s spread can be as much as 25 to 35 feet when the tree reaches maturity, which is why it’s such a great shade tree. During the spring and summer, the tree produces dark green leaves. In the fall, the leaves change to a beautiful orange and red color. The tree does well in urban conditions and is a great landscape tree for homeowners.

• Crape Myrtle

The Crape Myrtle is a tree you’ll find all over Texas and our neighboring southern states. This tree, which is actually a tree shrub, grows to be 15 to 25 feet tall and is distinguished by its pink or white flowers. In the fall, its foliage turns yellow, orange, and red.

Crape myrtles are very common ornamental trees loved by homeowners. If you are going to plant them at your home or on the property you manage, we recommend you plant 3 to 4 of them in a single row hedge for the best aesthetic appearance and curb appeal.

• Lacebark Elm

The lacebark elm is known for its round crown and beautiful green leaves, which turn both yellow and reddish-purple during the fall months. This is a medium to a fast-growing tree and is generally immune to the diseases other elm trees can contract, making it an ideal tree for growing in any location.

Arborists like us consider the lacebark elm both a shade tree and an ornamental tree. It grows to be between 40 to 50 feet tall, with a shade spread of about 35 to 45 feet once the tree reaches maturity.

• Live Oak

• Shumard Oak

This stately tree is named after a Texas geologist from the 1800s. It’s known for its beautiful fall color – which is a brilliant red to red-orange – and its ability to be a great urban tree.

The Shumard oak is a medium to a fast-growing tree, typically growing between 13 to 14 inches per year. At maturity, the tree can be as tall as 40 to 60 feet, with a spread of 40 to 60 feet as well.
