The Air Spade allows our Arborist to clear soil from the base of the tree and examine the root flare below the surface without harming the tree. The root flare is the part of the tree’s trunk that intersects the root tissue. Uncovering this part of the trunk allows our Arborist to diagnose and gather more valuable information regarding the tree’s health.
Air Spading can also help determine if the grade and soil have been changed around the base of the tree recently. A changed grade or compacted soil can have a negative effect on the tree’s health. By exposing the root flare, our Arborist can see signs of root decay that can eventually lead to tree failure.
